The Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON) acknowledge the commendable efforts of the Federal Government, the State Governments, the Media, Private Organizations and individuals in minimizing the spread of the unprecedented pandemic in recent Human history—- COVID-19, including the selfless and gratifying voluntary financial contributions of individuals and corporate Organizations in Nigeria in support of the Federal and State Government‘s efforts in containing COVID-19.These are highly commendable gestures.

We note in especial the critical decision of the Federal Government through the Presidential order to lockdown the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States, inclusive of the earlier pro- active directive to close our borders and international Airports to safeguard the Nation– NIGERIA.

We believe these are measures that will encourage the Public to conform and adhere to professional medical advice and take all preventive measures seriously.

We call on all State Governments to spare no effort in the continuous education and sensitisation in creating more awareness to the dangers of COVID-1 for the benefit of their people.

BON acknowledges also the numerous programme ideas designed by it’s members being showcased through various Media campaigns for the prevention of the spread of the pandemic.

We encourage our members to increase the frequency of whatever campaigns or programme ideas designed and geared towards the education and sensitisation of the myriads of the Nigerian Public in combating the pandemic.

BON appeals to the Governments to consider the provision of safety kits and palliatives to Journalists from both the public and private organizations in Nigeria, to encourage and give them confidence in the discharge of their duties in this unpredictable and dangerous news coverage of the pandemic.

Furtherance to above, BON wishes to advise the general public to beware of FAKE NEWS, and to always get authentic information from recognizable and reliable Media sources.
